Ever sweeter?

January 18, 2010 by kipstrik

When I started my second phase of knitting (i.e. attending Stitch’n'Bitch groups) some five years ago, it was all about skulls and punk.

(picture from http://creativechicksatplay.blogspot.com/)

Now, most of the favorites of my friends on ravelry are lace scarves… What’s happened?

(btw, as there’s nothing better than a nice Aufhefbung, I found a skull lace pattern: http://vintagestitchorama.blogspot.com/2006/07/skull-stockings.html)

Blesssing #1

Today, after having accompanied my husband to the doctor, I cycled back through Utrecht through the thaw. But there was still enough snow left to give a sense of a wintery inner city (at the Van Asch Van Wijkkade).  It being halfway through the afternoon helped, of course – you get less distracted by traffic. At times like this, I really like cycling through the older parts of Utrecht. Especially, when my husband’s allright.

New Year’s resolutions

January 8, 2010 by kipstrik

Normally, I don’t really make New Year’s resolutions. But I’ve wanted to better myself for some time now ;-)

So here we go:

  • Count my blessings
  • See my friends more often
  • Eat less meat
  • Do more walking, biking etc.
  • Read more poetry
  • Increase concentration

Next step is to turn these resolutions into actionable items… This might be too trivial for you to bear reading…

Nieuwjaarsborrel 2010

January 3, 2010 by kipstrik

Eerst: aan alle twee lezers: ik wens jullie een schitterend 2010 toe!

Gisteren hadden we een nieuwjaarsborrel: erwtensoep (met vleesch of vega), roggebrood + spek of brie, bokbier en appelsap. Was geslaagd: hoop mensen, hoop kinderen, hoop lawaai. De kapstok zakte in elkaar onder het gewicht van winterjassen.

Trying to finish a transaction with Amnesty: orderd 2 packs of christmas cards & a t-shirt. Shirt was too small and I wanted to swop it for a bigger one. Phoned customer service: “just post us the shirt, you’ll get another one.”

After 2 weeks I call back: what’s the status of my t-shirt? Guy at phone can’t help me, someone’ll call me back later in half an hour. After 1 hour I’m called by firm that doesn’t know why they should call me, only it’s on their sheet… (after having replaced the phone, it dawns on me that this might be connected to AI: the company seals stuff). I phone AI back, and a nice man finds out that my swop isn’t in the system and fixes things. 2 hours later, someone from AI calls me: “How can I help?” I tell him, I already called back myself and that matters are OK now (I think).

Bigger t-shirt arrived some days ago (alas, still too small – both M and L aren’t what I’m used to at H&M…). Today another bigger t-shirt arrived, plus a free pack of cards and a bill. No way I’m gonna pay for this… (I know, I could consider it a gift to AI, but I think 30 euros is a bit grand). Mailed customer services… to be continued.

Still, AI does great work in the political arena.

grrr

October 19, 2009 by kipstrik

Due to some  kind of cold or flu, where I feel reasonably well in the morning and not at all in the afternoon, I’ve had to cancel a crafts fair, a baby visit and a day of museums in Rotterdam tomorrow. Grrrr. I only get to hang out on the sofa, read Stieg Larssons Luftskib and knit a dog sweater (all at the same time, mind you). And to boot, it’s my long-awaited fall vacation…

Packing

October 2, 2009 by kipstrik

Packing for Denmark. My brother and I are going to move house for my father, who is finally going to an old folks home in Haslev. It’s a bit stressful and chaotic at times, but on the other hand, the objective is clear: getting the new apartment to look friendly and have my dad settled in there.

O yes, Bart is staying at home – too much work…

Unfortunately, I didn’t win the tickets for After Life – the opera, Gnoe (see last post) offered on her blog… And I only have time this evening… Nothing to be done about it – Hopefully NPS will air it someday, or hopefully, it will be repeated at the Stopera after the international tour.

Read More

September 27, 2009 by kipstrik

One of my plans upon graduation was to Read More Literature – not just Young Adult Literature and/or Pulp. Unfortunately, the reading done has been limited, due to all kinds of stressful events etc. So I’ve simply been too tired or more in the mood for knitting.

But yesterday – during a walk arond Meijendaal in The Hague – Gnoe talked about the 24-hour challenge at bookcrossing. It’s also just a nice way to claim time to read! So I’m going to find a weekend and only do reading soon – also to relax a bit. And to finish the third Larsson, that I find a little bit boring at the moment….
